Buddhism is a blessing brought into our lives by the gentle grace of ancient sages whom we call Buddhas, for their awakening to spiritual reality, or Tathagatas, for their bringing relief and liberation into our lives. This blessing is like the all empowering sun that shines upon a pool. In the pool are white lotus flowers, symbolising those who entrust themselves to that grace. The lotuses have their roots in the mud of common human circumstance and fathomless depths of karmic conditioning, yet, under the nurturing influence of the sun, they grow up through the darkness, each reaching its full potential, flowering and bearing fruit in the radiant world above.

Amida Trust, through its religious community called Amida-shu, exists to bring the authentic tradition of Pureland (or White Lotus) Buddhism into the contemporary world in a spiritually profound, socially engaged and psychologically informed manner. It trains chaplains and ministers, sustains religious communities, offers a complete professional training for Buddhist counsellors and psychotherapists, supports aid projects in India and Africa, promotes arts and gardens, has centres in UK, France and Hawaii, trains people for voluntary service overseas, and sustains a full programme of Buddhist practice for lay and ordained members.

At the core of Amida Buddhism lies gratitude, awe, wonder, and a deep appreciation of the bitter-sweetness of life. At its cuting edge lies co-operative action to help sentient beings in real ways. This is a spirituality for ordinary people. Imperfect as we are, the blessings of all the Buddhas will fall upon us when we simply open our hearts to them.
